A Salute to our Veterans!

This page is dedicated to all
those living and deceased,
who have served in the Armed Forces
of United States Of America.

Veteran

Some would say this grizzly
Old veteran had the body
of a thirty year old male.

Some would say his body was wiry
But none could say or see how
Many scars were in his heart and soul.

Nor could they see the torment
That was flashing through his mind
When he had flashbacks to the war.

Nor could they see the tears
in his eyes when he remembered
his old buddy dying in his arms.

And the poor emancipated children,
And Yes! Old people eating out of garbage Cans.
No those things were hiding
Only in his mind.

Freedom

It is the soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us the Freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet,
who has given us Freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus
organizer, who has given us the Freedom
to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, who serves beneath
the Flag, who salutes the Flag,
whose coffin is draped by the Flag,
who allows the protester to burn the Flag.
It is the soldier, not the politician,
who has given his blood, his body, his life,
who has given us these FREEDOMS.

YOU DIDN'T

Remember the day I borrowed your brand
new car and I dented it?
I thought you'd kill me, but you didn't.

And remember the time I dragged you to the beach,
and you said it would rain, and it did?
I thought you'd say, "I told you so."
But you didn't.

Do you remember the time I flirted with all the
guys to make you jealous, and you were?
I thought you'd leave me,
but you didn't.

Do you remember the time I spilled strawberry pie
all over your car rug? I thought you'd hit me,
but you didn't.

And remember the time I forgot to tell you the
dance was formal and you showed up in jeans?
I thought you'd drop me,
but you didn't.

Yes, there were lots of things you didn't do,
But you put up with me, and you loved me,
and you protected me.

There were lots of things I wanted to make up to
you when you returned from Viet Nam.
But you didn't.

The Medal

There he stood gallantly, before a crowd.
Waiting to receive the Medal Of Honor,
from the president of the United States.

With tears in his eyes, little did the
crowd see, or think, what was going
through this soldiers mind.
As he stood before All the Generals
and dignitaries,that were gathered there.

He was recalling in his mind,
what went on in the steaming jungles of Vietnam,
when the VietCong, were over wheeling the hill,
that he was on with his buddies and
how he single handed fought until all the Viet Cong retreated.

Or how he carried his young brother to safety on his back.
Even though he had a bullet in his leg.
Not one of them knew the hurt that
was going through this poor soldiers mind.

Fallen Soldier

A Soldier has fallen
He will not be forgotten
His spirit dwells in those
Whose lives he touched
He has lead us
He has taught us
He has shown us the way
He gave us all of himself.

Because he was made that way
He gave birth to an idea
That will never go away
He did this all
To save us some day
As all heroes do.
